Get out of my own way #1--Pie Crust

Ever since I was little I heard how hard pie crusts were to create. It might have to do with something with my mom saying she couldn't make one--fortunately she makes the best apple pie with a yummy pressed crust. The other day I had an urge for a home made chicken pot pie--with a homemade pie crust. I decided to get out my own way and stop saying "I want to learn how to make pie crust" and just do it!
I went online searching for the best pie crust recipe. There are too many options! I didn't know what kind of fat I wanted to use (shortening, butter, or lard). I finally decided to use butter. The option seemed a little more natural and perhaps even a bit more "French." I finally found this yummy and easy recipe. It turned out perfectly. It was light and flaky--the way a pie crust should taste.
I was so glad that I decided to finally learn. Sure it isn't pretty, but it was yummy. I look forward to making more pies to practice my rolling out and crimping skills. I am excited to develop a new talent.

My 28th Year

This past week I had my 28th Birthday. It was kind of a weird feeling--to be 28 (ironically for the past year when asked how old I was I would tell people I will be 28...I think it comes from the fact that 27 has one more syllable and it sounded odd to me). As much as I don't want to get older--I think I still have a bit of Peter Pan in me--I am excited for this year. I have decided to live my new mantra..."get out of your own way!" For the past month or so I have been living with this new saying, and by so doing I have found myself more excited for the unknown and more willing to do what I've always wanted to.
This new blog is going to be a record this year. I am going to focus on at least 28 things that I have always wanted to do, and finally I am going to get out of my own way and accomplish a few things that I have always wanted to do.

So I hope you will accept my "Rule of 28" by getting "out of your own way!"
